Strawberry Moon Rising: Catch It On Grand Lake on June 11th
Get ready, Wellen Park—Mother Nature is serving up a sweet treat in the sky. On Tuesday, June 11th, the Strawberry Moon will rise, and it’s one of those celestial moments you’ll want to mark on your calendar (or at least set an alarm to step outside and look up).
What Is the Strawberry Moon?
Despite its juicy name, the Strawberry Moon isn’t pink or red. It’s the nickname for June’s full moon, named by the Algonquin and other Native American tribes who used it as a sign that wild strawberries were ready for harvest. Over time, the name stuck—and now it’s the unofficial kickoff to summer skies.
Here in Southwest Florida, the moon will start rising just after sunset. As it climbs, it may appear amber or gold, glowing low over the horizon, especially as it reflects off our lakes and open skies. It’s the kind of moon that begs for a sunset paddle, a moonlit bike ride, or simply a moment of quiet wonder on your back porch.
