Flour is flying, fillings are prepped, and the oven mitts are ready — The Great Wellen Bake Off is officially SOLD OUT for participants, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s shaping up to be the sweetest showdown in town.
On Saturday, June 28th, Downtown Wellen’s Solis Hall will be filled with the aromas of fruit, sugar, spice, and serious skill as bakers compete in this year’s dessert pie contest. From gooey pecan to zesty key lime, you better believe the pie bar is high.
Judging Categories:
- Kids (Under 13)
- Teens (13–18)
- Adults (18+)
Even though all participant spots are spoken for, everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy the event. Judging kicks off at 10:30am and is open to the public — so bring your friends, bring your appetite, and get ready to root for your favorite flavor.
Prizes on the Line:
- 1st Place: $500 Visa Gift Card + custom etched wooden spoon
- Runner-Up: $250 Visa Gift Card + custom etched wooden spoon
Yes, that’s right — cash, glory, and a spoon worthy of display. Winners will be chosen based on taste, technical execution, and appearance, with judging kept anonymous and fair.
A Quick Look Back: Rain, Resilience, and Really Good Pie
Last year’s Bake Off came with a soggy surprise — a summer storm that canceled the Great American Picnic. But inside Solis Hall? It was warm, welcoming, and full of pie-powered perseverance.

Despite the rain, we saw 13 adult entries and 6 youth competitors bring their A-game and their baked goods. Coconut cream, apple crumble, chocolate silk — the variety was as impressive as the dedication. And judging by the smiles in last year’s winner photo, the storm didn’t dampen one bit of joy.

While official contest pies are for the judges only, there will be free pie samples from local vendors and community partners so everyone can enjoy a taste of the action.
Final Event Details:
- Pie drop-off: 9:00–10:00am
- Judging begins: 10:30am at Solis Hall
- Winners announced on-site — bakers must be present to win
