WELLEN PARK, FL — April 2025

The long-anticipated Wellen Park High School will officially open its doors in August of 2026, marking a major milestone in the growth of South Sarasota County and providing a much-needed educational hub for one of the fastest-growing communities in Florida.

Located in the heart of the Wellen Park development, the new public high school will welcome its first wave of students in 2026, bringing state-of-the-art facilities, a wide range of academic programs, and a renewed sense of community pride to the region.

Meeting the Needs of a Growing Community

Wellen Park High School was built in response to soaring enrollment and rapid residential development in the area. As families continue to flock to the Wellen Park master-planned community, Sarasota County Schools worked closely with local officials and developers to ensure infrastructure kept pace with demand.

The school’s opening in 2026 is expected to relieve overcrowding at nearby Venice and North Port High Schools, helping balance enrollment across the district.

Modern Learning Meets Community Spirit

Designed with flexibility and innovation in mind, the Wellen Park High School campus includes modern science labs, collaborative learning spaces, digital media resources, and performance-ready arts and athletics facilities.

The school’s athletic complex includes a new football stadium, baseball and softball fields, and an indoor gymnasium—ready to host both school and community events. A 600-seat performing arts center is also slated to become a cultural focal point for local concerts, plays, and civic gatherings.

A New Identity for a New School

Wellen Park High School Eagles, will be red, white, and blue! The colors and mascot were chosen through community input, reinforcing local ties and creating a shared sense of ownership. The school is launching with a full lineup of extracurricular programs, including sports teams, student government, arts clubs, and career-based organizations.

Early enrollment numbers are strong, and excitement among students and parents has been palpable. “We’ve been waiting for this school to open,” said local parent Michelle Torres. “It’s beautiful, it’s close, and it feels like a real investment in our kids’ future.”

Looking Ahead

With its doors now open, Wellen Park High School is expected to become a central institution for South Sarasota County—not just for education, but for civic life.

From Friday night football to weekend performances and student showcases, the campus is poised to become a gathering place for the broader community. Officials hope the school’s presence will strengthen neighborhood bonds, foster local pride, and inspire future growth.
